Product Description

Virtuoso violinist and composer Adolf Busch (1891-1952) has almost been totally forgotten 50 years after his death, even though he played an outstanding role in the concert life of the first half of the 20th century. Teacher of Yehudi Menuhin and Isaac Stern, he was also intensely devoted to composition in the late German Romantic tradition. His organ works are brought to life here by German organist Ludger Lohmann on the 1996 Rieger organ in Stuttgart Conservatory.

Two Chorale Fantasies on Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten (1910)

Choralbearbeitung über Alle Menschen müssen sterben (1911)

Fantasie (and Fugue) über Bach's recitative from St. Matthew Passion Mein Gott, warum hast zu mich verlassen and the Chorale Aus tiever Not schrei ich zu dir, op. 19 (1919)

Passacaglia and Fugue, op. 27 (1923)

Toccata and Fugue, op. 67 (1948)

Eight Choralvorspiele, op. 60a (1942):
Vater unser
Das alte Jahr vergangen ist
Macht hoch die Tür, die Tor macht weit
Aus tifer Not
Wie schön leucht' uns der Morgenstern
O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden
Was mein Gott will, das g'scheh allzeit
Canon in der Unterterz
Was mein Gott will, das g'scheh allzeit Canon in der Quinte
