Cathédrales

At the Cathédrale d'Amiens, principal organist Gérard Loisemant plays French works whose composition was inspired by great cathedrals. The organ dates back to 1429, and has been modified and expanded several times since then. In 1549 it was modified by Le Pécheur, in the 18th century by Dallery, in 1833 by John Abbey and in 1888-9 by Cavaillé-Coll. The instrument was put into storage following a 1918 bombardment of the church, and was rebuilt by Röethinger in 1936. In 1965, Röethinger completed a general overhaul of the organ to its state at the time of this recording.
