Graham Barber performs works of the Christmas season on the Schulze organ which now resides at St. Bartholomew's, Armley. The 1868 instrument has an interesting and lively history. It began as a gift of a young, wealthy Englishman to his wife; Edmund Schulze installed the instrument in the couple's "Organ House", a chalet out in front of the main house which would seat some 800 people. When the wife took ill and could no longer play the instrument, it was sold to two sisters, who loaned the instrument to St. Peter's Church, Harrogate.(Once again, the instrument was moved by Edmund Schulze.) A certain Vicar's ungratefulness would cause the ladies to have the instrument removed from the church and sell it to a wealthy benefactor of St. Bartholomew's, where the instrument was installed by Edmund's brother Eduard Schulze. There the instrument has remained intact, virtually unscathed by modernizations or changes in taste.
