Remembrance
St. Paul's Cathedral Choir • John Scott
Especially on occasions of great mourning do church musicians have a duty to use music to articulate the thoughts and prayers held by many. The men and boys of St. Paul's Cathedral Choir, under the direction of John Scott, understand and accept this charge, fulfilling it well. Here, they sing music of remembrance from Memorial Services following the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001, and the bombings in Bali, Indonesia in October, 2002. OHS Member Huw Williams accompanies on the organ.

Pierre de Manchicourt: Church of the Advent Choir
Pierre de Manchicourt (c. 1510-1564), a native of Flanders and choir director at several French cathedrals, became music director of the court chapel of Philip II of Spain in 1559. His choral works were widely published and appreciated in his lifetime, and thus survive. The exquisite singing of these beautiful a cappella works by the professional Choir of the Church of the Advent, Boston, Edith Ho, director, is wonderfully captured by recording engineer Ed Kelly and is produced on an SACD-Hybrid CD which plays in conventional stereo on CD players, and in 5-channel Surround Sound on SACD players.

Vincent Paulet (b. 1962) Organ Works & Choral Works
Works of Vincent Paulet (b. 1962) seek a new route of expression within modernism, largely rejecting the apparent antagonism of avant-gardism and post-modernism. While freely atonal, his music gradually incorporates elements of an earlier tradition. The relation of time is a key element: listening time cannot be compressed and duration affects the quality of memory. The composer intentionally ended a promising future as a concert organist in 1994 to devote his energies to composition for which he has received many accolades and prizes in international competitions. Véronique Le Guen plays the Pascal Quoirin organ at Saint-Rémy de Provence. The superb Les Éléments Chamber Choir sings as directed by Joël Suhubiette. FOR ORGAN: Salve regina; Ave maris stella; Élégie; Laus FOR CHOIR: De profundis Psalm 129 for mixed choir; Suspiros for mixed choir, tenor solo, string quartet
