The Oude Kerk, Amsterdam, dating from around 1300, has two organs: the 1964 Ahrend & Brunzema organ and the 1724 Vater organ, enlarged and rescaled by Casper Mueller. Charles Rus, organist for the San Francisco Symphony and at St. John’s Episcopal Church in that city, is at home with his sensitive, musical playing in the splendid acoustics of the Amsterdam church. And, intelligent recording: Sweelinck’s Echo actually echoes!
