Concert Echoes A spritely player reaches all the way from Los Angeles to Detroit! Ann Leaf, famous for her radio shows, soap opera accompaniments and who presided at the New York Paramount for three years, was so short in stature that she had to attach wooden blocks to swell pedals to reach them. No such limitations are apparent on this CD which is loaded with big sounds and skilful playing.
At the Los Angeles Theatre, where a Wurlitzer style 216, opus 1620, now missing, was moved from LA’s Tower Theatre, Ann Leaf plays Muskrat Ramble, Similau, Parade of the Tin Soldiers and I Love a Parade, Gauiott-Peruvian Waltz, Green Leaves of Summer, a Show Tune Medley, Happy Island and more. At Detroit’s Senate Theatre, Wurlitzer opus 1953, originally in the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, still retains its Mayan-style console, several rare features and a very unusual stop layout. Tunes heard include Bellita, Green Dolphin Street, Quiet Night of Quiet Stars, Gypsy Dance from Carmen, The Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet, Love is Blue and others.
