Previously unreleased, these performances were found in a group of recordings by Don Baker made on Wurlitzers at Birmingham’s Alabama Theatre and at the Senate Theatre in Detroit. Previously installed in the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, the Detroit Senate Wurlitzer, Opus 1953, is tonally intact, though the chamber layout has been altered from its original design. It was the 8th largest organ built by Wurlitzer. Wurlitzer Opus 1783 in the Alabama Theatre was built as a Style Publix 1 organ to the design of Jesse Crawford with twenty ranks of pipes, tuned percussions and sound effects for movie accompaniment. Eight ranks of pipes have been added to the original scheme.
