Marcel Dupré: Les Vêpres de la Vierge, Op. 18
In a recording made during a winter night at Notre-Dame de Paris, Philippe Lefebvre performs Marcel Dupré's Les Vêpres de la Vierge, (Vespers from the Common of Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary) op. 18 on the renowned Cavaillé-Coll organ. Lefebvre performs in alternatum with the nine men of the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge, under the direction of founder Mary Berry. Organist David Hill improvises a quiet accompaniment on the orgue de chœur.

This recording is dedicated to the memory of Claude Goodman Johnson, former managing director of Rolls-Royce. It was Johnson who, after hearing Dupré improvise on the vespers, commissioned him to write them down. The liner notes include comments by Jeremy Filsell, Philippe Lefebvre and Mary Berry, as well as a stop list of the Cavaillé-Coll organ and the text of the vespers in English, French and Latin.
