Guy Bovet: 13 Tangos Ecclesiasticos for Organ

Guy Bovet, the composer of these works, writes, "The project of this set of pieces was to write on Tango in each of the church tones as practiced by the organ composers of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. All these pieces can be played on historical instruments with a compass of only four octaves, short first octave, and optional pedal. So, I was hoping to create some new concert music, playable also on instruments with restricted possibilities. However, they sound very well on modern instruments, small or large. All these Tangos make reference either to some sacred organ repertoire, most often the Spanish tientos . . ., or to anecdotes concerning ecclesiastical persons." Elisabeth Zawadke plays the 1986 Georges Lhôte 4-62 at the former Collegiate Church in Saint-Imier, Switzerland.
