"The two volumes of Trios for Organ contain forty-three short compositions for two manuals and pedal. They were written originally for my own students, to fill what I felt was a need for more music in the trio style- especially pieces shorter and less difficult than the Bach trio sonatas. They may therefore be used by a teacher and student for the improvement of organ technique. They may be performed in church at various moments during the service. And they may also, it is my hope, be played sometimes simply for the enjoyment they give to the player and to those who listen."
