Normally considered a romantic, organist Klaas Jan Mulder demonstrates that he is equally at home playing Baroque music from the bench of the Schnitger organ at St. Michaëlskerk in Zwolle, Holland. Here, Mulder plays works of Johann Sebastian Bach, two of his sons, Johann Christoph Friedrich (The "Bückeburg") Bach, and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and his student, Johann Ludwig Krebs. Although the instrument was designed by Arp Schnitger, it was completed in 1723 by his sons, Frans Caspar and Johan Georg Schnitger after their father's death. The instrument has undergone several restorations since that time, including in 1953 when the Flentrop firm restored the instrument to its original disposition and tuning, which was, according to the CD Booklet, about "one tone above the normal level." Includes text of an interview with Klaas Jan Mulder in English and Dutch.
