2016 is Reger's centenary year, so the timing is right for a Reger DVD. UK-based organ music film company Fugue State Films are following up their epic, brilliantly-reviewed and award-winning boxed set, The Genius of Cavaillé-Coll, with a truly giant boxed set devoted to one of the greatest composers of organ music – Max Reger.

What will the multi-disc DVD boxed set be like?

Our Reger DVD will include about ten hours of material including a full biographical documentary plus lots of filmed performances and recordings, all packaged in a handsomely-produced boxed set.

Which organs and organists will we feature?

We are working with Graham Barber, Bernhard Buttmann, Andreas Sieling and Bernhard Haas, using instruments such as the Sauer organ at the Lutherkirche in Chemnitz, the Link organ at the Pauluskirche in Ulm, the new Weimbs “Reger organ” at St Michael's, Weiden, the Schulze organ in Armley, and of course the ultimate German romantic organ, the Sauer organ in the Berliner Dom.

All will be filmed and recorded in magnificent surround sound.

Organ Works:

The boxed set will include the following massive Reger organ works:
Chorale Fantasias Opus 30 and 52iii
Symphonic Fantasia and Fugue Opus 57
Second Sonata Opus 60
Variations and Fugue on an Original Theme Opus 73
Fantasia and Fugue in D minor Opus 135b
Plus more, including many medium and smaller works.

Other Works:
Reger's organ works will feature in pride of place in this DVD, but we will also include a good selection of his greatest orchestral, instrumental, chamber works and lieder.
The Brandenburgische Staatsorchester conducted by Ira Levin, with Frauke May, mezzo-soprano
An Die Hoffnung Opus 124
Bach Variations Opus 81 (orch Levin);
Four Tone Poems after Arnold Böcklin Opus 128

Chamber music will be filmed in the Altes Rathaus in Reger's home town of Weiden, and will include:
Plus selected Lieder; Quartet Opus 52ii; Cello Sonata Opus 116; Violin Sonatas Opus 72, 84, 103b; Sextet Opus 118, selected piano works and more.
