Product Description
The works presented in this 2-CD set were composed expressly for Milan Cathedral or in its cultural environment and are performed here by the Cathedral musicians. Some of the scores, kept in the Choir archive, are still handwritten, and represent six centuries of uninterrupted musical tradition. The cathedral had an organ as early as the 14th-century and the choir had its beginnings in the early 15th century. By 1938, there were seven organs, playable as one, comprising 15,350 pipes. One CD is devoted entirely to organ works (some for multiple organs, such as the Bossi piece) and the other to works for organ and choir. The CD booklet (in four languages including English) is a fascinating supplement.
