The Austin pipe organ housed in the richly resonant space of St. Mary's Church in Dayton, Ohio (like Skinner and other organs of that era) is a prime example of the orchestrally conceived "romantic" organs of the time. Characterized by smooth diapasons, imitative reed voices and a wide variety of flute and string stops, the instrument is showcased brilliantly by Kim, providing the listener an opportunity to explore unique sonorities of a bygone era. Praised by concert-goers as an artist who "stretches the limits of the instrument," Korean-born concert organist Yun Kyong Kim consistently brings diverse programs to her audiences. In demand as an organ (and harpsichord) recitalist, she received her doctoral degree in organ performance from Indiana University at Bloomington. She also studied and performed in Germany, and made her French debut in Paris at the Church of Sainte-Clotilde. For this recital, Kim puts the organ through its paces, the result of which is captured in a demonstration-class recording.
