Happy Holidays from the OHS Catalog!

December 8, 2011

We had a severe thunderstorm last night. As a result, we lost power and our server was offline. If you were trying to browse our site or make an order please try again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We had over 22,000 hits in four days! Our Black Friday sale was HUGE! Time to get back to work!

November 15, 2011

The Richmond office is ready for Black Friday. We will be working long and hard throughout the upcoming holiday seasons. Please note that UPS and the postal service cannot guarantee delivery within the normal time frame. This means that a package normally taking one week to go from the east coast to the west coast may be delayed.

October 18, 2011

We now have a new search function! We're still working the bugs out of the system, but overall it is MUCH better than our earlier search. Try it and let us know what you think.

We have a four day work week this week due to Columbus day. We realize there were a number of orders over the weekend in response to last week's e-flyer. These orders will be processed in order on a first-come first-served basis unless expedited shipping is chosen at checkout.

September 29, 2011

We will be conducting inventory counts today and tomorrow. As you may know we have over 5000 items. This is a very tedious task but it must be completed. If you place an order before the weekend it may not be shipped before Monday. All customers choosing expedited ordering will not be charged the extra fee.

The service where I play was particularly somber this past Sunday, September 11. The Preludes, Postlude, and Sermon reminded us all of that tragic day ten years ago. I cannot remember another year (except the first anniversary) where the response was as strong.

...never forget.

August 29, 2011

After a devastating hurricane this past weekend we are fully operational. There was no apparent damage to our building or our inventory, but we did gain an exterior sign. We have no idea where it came from, but it definitely was not on the building before the storm...

August 17, 2011

Effective September 1, our Oxford collections will be increasing in price. This is something beyond our control and comes directly from the supplier. The book, Widor: A Life Beyond the Tocatta, will also return to it's regular price of $80 for members, $85 for non-members.

We are now accepting Paypal as a payment method! This is a very exciting time and we have been working on implementing this for a while now. For those of you who are unaware how Paypal works here is a quick explanation:

Paypal is free to sign up and use. You create an account and link your credit card, bank account, or any other means of payment electronically. You then pay another person for goods or services by entering in the recipients email address and amount. No credit card numbers, bank account numbers, routing numbers, social security numbers, or any other information is exchanged. It really is: "The safer, easier way to pay!"

We regret to inform you that our shipping rates will be going up slightly. This will only apply to UPS and Priority Mail shipping within the U.S. Starting August 15. UPS shipping will be a flat rate of $8.50 and USPS Priority Mail will be $10.50. This is due to the fact that the U.S. Postal Service has raised their rates considerably within the past few years. UPS consistently adds fuel surcharges to the price of postage, but our prices have remained the same since the price of gas has doubled since the early 2000's.

We receive NUMEROUS complaints that our shipping rates are too high. Please note that Priority Mail boxes are free from the post office but postage must be paid or the box will not be mailed. Also, the ads on TV state, "If it fits, it ships! All for a low-flat-rate!" apply to their flat rate boxes. Packages mailed using Priority mail are charged based on weight and distance. If a flat rate box is not used postage generally exceeds the cost of their flat rate box counterparts. The small flat rate box is $4.95, medium flat-rate boxes are $10.50 (which make up the majority of the packages we send), and large flat rate boxes are $14.20 to ship.

UPS charges based on weight and distance. The picture below shows the cost to ship a one pound package within our same zip code is $8.31, but we have been charging $7.75 for a number of years...

We have returned from the convention in Washington and unpacked our stock. Everyone enjoyed their stay and we look forward to the convention next year in Chicago.

Today marks the end of the Cavaillé-Coll funding campaign. You are still able to prepurchase the DVD/CD set for a discounted price of $80 including shipping. After the project has been completed the price will be $85 (or more depending on the value of the dollar vs. the pound) plus shipping.

June 30, 2011

The Convention is on! There have been some great performances and venues this week. The book signing with Barbara Owen, Stephen Pinel, Rollin Smith, and Bynum Petty was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who supported us.

June 13, 2011

We look forward to seeing you all at our 2011 convention in Washington DC! We are very excited. The convention starts two weeks from today. We will be bringing our best sellers and brand new items for sale in our store--most are below retail price.

We will also be bringing our bargain/clearance supply. CDs and DVDs may have a broken case, books might have a bent corner or scratched cover, Sheet music might be printed upside down so you would need to flip the book over, etc. These are items that cannot be sold at retail price and are significantly reduced below wholesale price. See the office staff at the convention for more details.

May 17, 2011

Cipher: We received a number of emails about the misspelling of "Cavaillé-Coll." This was due to the fact that an accent egout (or any other diacritical mark) creates characters that normally would not appear in computer language. We apologize if we offended anyone in any way.

Spring is here at the OHS Catalog HQ in Richmond. This entire week we have seen mild temperatures in the low 80's and our flowers in front have produced beautiful purple blooms.

Have you been practicing this Lenten season? Perhaps you are planning a grand celebration for Easter. Consider Widor's toccata from Symphony number 5 for organ and brass now available.

April 7, 2011

After almost a month hiatus, we have now have From Ashes to Glory back in stock! If you have not yet bought a copy, act quickly! These copies won't last long...

We also received The Historic Recordings of Albert Schweitzer: The Organist in today. This is an absolutely amazing set of recordings remastered and split onto six CDs. It will most definitely be a best seller, so order now!

We are Live! MAS 90 is currently up and running on the computers at the OHS Catalog headquarters. The interface is user-friendly and looks like windows explorer. See the screenshot below:

February 25, 2011

It is an exciting (and stressful) time for the OHS Catalog as we transition to our new computer system, MAS 90. The entire office is working overtime to make sure all the orders are fulfilled on time, testing of the new system goes smoothly, and customer service issues are addressed promptly.

February 17, 2011

We have updated our catalog today with new and exciting features. Our newest DVD, Virtuoso! Music for Organ, is the first item ever on the OHS catalog website to include a clip from youtube. Please allow a moment to let the video load and enjoy in high definition!

Today we are adding a comment box at the bottom of this page. Please feel free to leave a comment and tell the world your thoughts! We'd love to hear from you.

We received a great response from our eflyer over the weekend. Thank you to everyone who ordered. There have been some questions about how long the Barbara Owen Litterae Organi special will last. This special will expire after Monday, February 28, 2011.

Introducing our newest member of the OHS Catalog staff: Kathryn Squires! She is our new Administrative assistant.

Kathryn Squires is a Richmond native and started singing in church choir at age 5. She received her bachelor of science in music with a concentration in vocal performance from Radford University in 2007. Later, she was a featured performer in the show “Twistin’ to the 60s” at Kings Dominion. While living in the big apple, she worked for a private restoration company and starred in the independent film, “Bike Club,” directed by Matthew McGregor. Since she has returned to Virginia, she worked as a Starbucks barista and performed in the Peninsula Community Theatre’s musical “Smokey Joe’s Café.” She interned at the Virginia Film Office and worked as a production assistant for the Lifetime and Sony Pictures Television film, “Unanswered Prayers.” She worked in the retail and restaurant industries before joining the staff of OHS in December. Kathryn is excited to serve as administrative assistant at the OHS. In her spare time she plans to be singing the national anthem at the Richmond Squirrels baseball games for their 2011 season and mentoring for the Big Brother Big Sister program.

Our e-flyer was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who ordered. We hope you will be pleased with your purchase. Many of the reprinted books and other books we found the other day in our warehouse have sold very well, but we still have plenty in stock. The prices are very low and would make great gifts.

Our very rare book, Flentrop in America, has done very well in the e-flyer as well. As of this moment we have sold half our stock! If you would still like a copy, or did not order a copy thinking you couldn't possibly click quickly enough to be one of the first, please know that they are still available!

Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland!

Well, not quite... There were flurries before dawn and sleet this morning, but every surrounding county and city school is closed today... In their defense, the storm has not yet reached us. It is predicted to begin around noon. Currently, the roads are wet and have not iced over.

The e-flyer goes out today. Let us know what you think! Email us with your thoughts/comments/questions/criticism of the eflyer. We'd love to have your feedback!

January 10, 2011

E-flyer is being worked on today. We hope there is something for everyone! If not, you are always welcome to call or email with your special requests/orders and we will do our best to obtain it for you at no additional charge. Please note, there is probable snowfall tomorrow in Richmond, VA. If so, we will have limited hours tomorrow, January 11.

January 6, 2011

Today we visited our storage unit and found some very rare, interesting items. No decision yet regarding what to do with them. We did, however, find some very rare books published between 1979 and 1982 that are out of print. They are now available for purchase: Organ Literature of the Seventeenth Century , Organs In Mexico , and Flentrop in America. These books are in very limited supply and in brand new condition. Remarkable for books of this age!

Make sure to watch your inbox for our next eflyer coming soon!
