A leading interpreter of nineteenth and twentieth century works, Christopher Herrick ably performs an interesting program of mostly nineteenth century works on the 1878 T. C. Lewis (Brixton) organ at Ripon Cathedral, North Yorkshire. The organ retains three stops from the 'Father' Schmidt organ built in 1690. Also retained from the 1690 instrument is a carved wooden hand, which the organist would have used by means of a foot lever to relay the beat to the choir. The hand is no longer controlled from the console.
