Behind the façade pipes of an organ built in 1629 for another church, the Hillebrand firm of Hannover, Germany has built a new organ of 3 manuals and pedal and 46 stops for the Marienbasilika in Gdansk, Poland. Andrzej Szadejko plays a program of seldom referenced works by Johann Gottfried Müthel and Friedrich Christian Samuel Mohrheim. In the 18th century, Mohrheim was Kapellmeister of this church and was a student of J. S. Bach from 1733 to 1736. Interestingly, Müthel was known to have visited Bach and, according to some reports, may have been present at Bach’s death.
