Noted organist, professor, composer and conductor Peter Planyavsky has selected 29 works for this survey of his compositions performed by his students at the organ of St. Augustin’s Church, Perchtoldsdorf, Austria. The three-manual, 40-register 1985 Reinisch-Pirchner organ conceived by Planyavsky in late romantic South German style pays homage to Perchtoldsdorf composer Franz Schmidt. Planyavsky himself provides absorbing, informative notes about the works, their compositional features and their inspirations. The three CDs include not only major works, but also a number of smaller chorale-based pieces which Planyavsky feels stand well on their own. PLANYAVSKY: Toccata alla Rumba; Sonata I; Das Gebet der Rebecca; Perpetuum Mobile; Da Jesus an dem Kreuze stund; Fughetta on Nun lobet Gott; Hört, es singt und klingt mit Schalle; Intermezzo; Wenn die Last der Welt; Ave-Verum-Meditation; Goldenes Stück für Goldenen Saal; Wir wollen alle fröhlich sein; Sonata II; Herzliebster Jesu; Gelobt sei Gott; Ad multos annos; O wunderbare Speise; Geh unter der Gnade; Toccata ma non troppo; Fantasia in memoriam A.
