Graham Barber performs works for the Christmas season on the fascinating Schulze Organ at St. Bartholomew's, Armley.
"Here's a Christmas feast of a different kind! Cold turkey may lose its attraction, mulled wine its allure, but the traditional tunes of the Christmas season never seem to diminish in popularity. This selection of organ music presents some of them, together with other music inspired by the seasonal theme - played on an unspoilt organ from the Victorian era" Graham Barber, quoted from the CD Booklet.

Built by the German-born August Gern (1837-1907), former contre-maître to Cavaillé-Coll, in 1897 for St. John-the-Baptist Church in the Kensington section of London. The remarkable organ in the French style was presided over by Healey Willan prior to his immigration to Canada. Henry Willis rebuilt and enlarged the organ in 1928, leaving the pipework and amazing voicing intact. David Bleaszard plays and improvises with style and great flair in this CD created to raise interest and funds for the organ’s much-needed repair, a problem beautifully overcome by the organist’s virtuosity and obvious high regard for this masterpiece of organbuilding.
