| Tragedy! Great Hook organ destroyed First Baptist Church in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston was destroyed by fire overnight on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, the flames taking one of the very few 3m Hook organs built before 1860. The beautiful organ was visited by OHS during its 2000 Convention and was played by Lois Regestein, a former organist of the church. Her performance is featured on the 4-CD set below, Historic Organs of Boston, which also includes two other Hook treasures in Jamaica Plain, including the one in the Hooks' home church. Leonard Ciampa, organist of the First Baptist Church for many years, has recorded two CDs of Christmas music on the organ, also listed here. |
