The organ at First Presbyterian Church in Port Townsend, Washington, was installed in 1889 and continues to joyously resound as the oldest original installation of an organ in the state. Organist Elwood Bernas plays repertoire such as he normally plays during church services, confirming the enduring tonal design of this splendid organ as entirely appropriate for current church use. The organ survives as a very rare example of the work of Whalley & Genung of Oakland, California. Thomas W. Whalley was born in San Francisco in 1856 and became a West Coast organbuilding pioneer.BIERY: Gaudeamus Pariter; The Prodigal Son LOCKLAIR: The Peace NEAR: Veni Emmanuel; O Solis Ortus Cardine BACH: Wachet auf!; Nun freut euch, liebe Christeng’mein DUPRÉ: Antiphons II, III, V JACOB: Festal Flourish LEAVITT: Let Our Gladness have No End LEMMENS: Fanfare BURKHARDT: Earth and All Stars REGER: Melodia BUXTEHUDE: Prelude & Fugue in g; Jesus Christus, unser Heiland; Ciacona; Herr Christ, der einig Gottes Sohn SCHROEDER: Allegretto, Andantino, Poco Vivace VIERNE: Carillon du Longpont
