Distinguished organist Simon Preston expertly demonstrates the famous organ, built in 1871 by Father Willis and rebuilt and expanded by Harrison and Harrison in 1924 and 1933 and now restored by the Mander firm to be the largest organ in the United Kingdom. Prestonís program ranges widely from a transcription of Mendelssohn by W. T. Best, who opened the organ in 1871 in the presence of Queen Victoria, to works by William Bolcom and Karg-Elert. The CD closes with Jongenís massive Sonata Eroica.
