In this first biography of the late Eastman Professor, Sobaje surveys the life of her former teacher chronologically from his youth in Iowa to his move to Rochester, his work at Eastman both with David Craighead and later David Higgs, the Festschrift written in Saunders' honor, and his untimely 1992 death. The author dedicates a section of the book to those who influenced him and a separate section on Russell's influence on Eastman, on Christ Church in Rochester, and on his craft overall. Still another section is dedicated to quotes from colleagues, friends and students of the pedagogue. Includes a foreword from David Higgs.
